ADVICE FROM JIM PARQUE
Your career depends on what you learn today

“Getting to the next level means being successful NOW. Oftentimes, players only get one shot to be seen by a recruiter whom must cover numerous games to find top talent. This “window of opportunity” can be short lived and judgmental.

Hitters need to produce every time out, in an effort to ensure whoever is watching gets a good read on the abilities of the player. In my experiences when dealing with scouts, I have found they are only human. Recruiting is based upon scouting reports and the opinion of the scout. Their interpretation can be skewed- as they usually see the prospect limited times.

This mindset of producing day in and day out can only help the player. In a world where winning is everything, this will ensure the athlete in peak performance consistently. Work ethic, passion, and playing the game hard are effective ways to ensure consistency on the field.

I encourage players to live their dream on and off the field. Continually immersing the mind in baseball will breed excellence. Players and parents do not realize that baseball must be a lifestyle in order to succeed. It must become a priority that drives thoughts, work ethic, and lifestyle. How far a player goes in the game is determined by how much they are willing to sacrifice.”
