If there was one team in Washington State that has produced more wins over the past few years, won more tournaments, and competed into the finals of more World Series Championships, many would bring up the 18U Puget Sound Roxx.Coached by Quientin Poil, the Roxx are stacked with college and pro bound juniors. This concentration of talent gave the Roxx all they needed to pound out win after win in Yakima, at the Babe Ruth World Series.
With decisive victories over New York, the Midwest, Chaffey Baseball of Washington, and many more teams from across the country, the Roxx won the entire thing.
Unlike many world series championship tournaments, the Babe Ruth World Series required team to win their region and league. This is a testament to how tough the competition and teams were at this tournament, held in Yakima, WA this past August.
“My team faced a lot of quality pitchers throwing in the lower 90’s. They saw some amazing hitters and fielding. But in the end, we came out on top due to the way my team played and how the continued to battle whether behind or ahead.” Stated head coach Quientin Poil.
The tournament saw two Washington State teams battle it out in Chaffey and the Roxx. However, the Roxx, beat up on the Seattle based Chaffey team 7-4 and continued on their tear throughout the week. Key performances came from WSU bound juniors Brandon Williams and Sal Arena. Two standouts whom train in the off season at BLE, Williams and Arena took care of their competition on the mound and at the plate, respectively.
Cole McCloed pitched the Roxx into the championship with six strong innings, giving up only a few hits. Other contributing players were Sean Rehon, Tanner Walker, and Jared Casper.
The World Series title is the culmination of the Roxx great performances throughout their season and is sure to continue into the 2010 campaign.
